TechnologyNeed A Divorce Advice? Now There Is An App For ThatBy Balraj Posted on December 4, 20173 min read001,934Share on FacebookShare on TwitterShare on Google+Share on LinkedinDivorces are a rough thing to go through. There is a long legal process involved in getting a divorce. In 2001, Vandana Shah was thrown out of her home by her husband with just Rs 750 in her account. She had no idea that her separation would take a decade to be finalized into a permanent divorce. She lost faith in the transparency of our legal system and decided to get a law degree. Times changed for her and now she is an established divorce lawyer in Mumbai. However, she did not stop there. Vandana Shah has just launched India’s first application to help with divorces, called Divorcekart.SourceDivorcekart offers instant and round-the-clock service for those in need of a legal advice while filing for a divorce. “I was completely misguided for the first few years of my divorce because I didn’t know the law at all. Even if you go to your relatives or friends, they give you half-baked advice. That was my motivation for starting the app,” says Shah. “No one else should go through the same situation. Since then, the rate of divorce in India has gone up 13 times but the socio-legal narratives haven’t changed.”SourceAs the times change, people are no longer asking their relatives or friends for a good lawyer. Instead, they can now just go online and seek legal counsel on the phone. Startups such as Legistify, LawRato and MyAdvo are already changing the way that people seek legal counsel. Divorcekart has a team of 15 lawyers who will be available on chat or call 24×7, for free for the first three months. There is also a support group for the divorcees if they need any emotional counselling. Vandana Shah hopes that women can find a non-judgemental legal support at a time when their families give up on them.
