2. Ayyanakere Lake

This beautiful water body is located in the Maland region and is 20km away from Chikmagalur. The lake has a beautiful view of the Shakunagiri hill in the background and makes for the best spot to watch the sunset and sunrise, while in Chikmagalur. The way to this untouched lake is through narrow passages via small villages. You can swim, fish or simply take a walk around the lake and feel refreshed. The backdrop of the lake provides for the perfect picture spot.

3. Madagadakere Lake

This lake is a paradise for photography lovers. It doesn’t attract crowds like the other lakes and one can go there and be alone with nature. A walk around its banks with the cool breeze blowing is sure to rejuvenate you. It is located 34 km away from Chikmagalur and provides you with an opportunity to be alone with yourself. The easiest way to travel to this lake would be to rent a car with a trained driver. The best time to visit this lake is during the monsoon when the water level in the river will be high though one has to be very careful of the slippery mud around the bank.

4. Galikere Lake

Also known as the Mansarovar of Karnataka, this heart-shaped lake is not as large compared to the other lakes but attracts more tourists due to its unique shape. To reach this lake, one has to travel through the various pathways of the Western Ghats that offer a beautiful view. For many, the journey to this lake is as impressive as the lake itself. Its unique heart shape attracts a lot of couples and photography enthusiasts.

5. Basavanahally Lake

This lake is not as famous and widely traversed like the other lakes in Chikmagalur. The statue of the youth icon of India i.e. Swami Vivekananda in the background awes many travellers. One can also see the pleasing view of the Western Ghats in the background. This lake is located in the middle of the town and one need not take the route less travelled by to reach this destination.
